Keeping it beautiful.
These four rules are on the care card in the box. Below them is why each one exists, per material.
- Hand wash at 30 °C.
- Let the cord air-dry.
- Polish the brass with a soft cloth.
- Store it dry.
Per material
What each part needs
Cord
Wash by hand in lukewarm water with a mild soap. Not in the machine and not in the dryer: the heat shrinks the sheath around the core. Lay the lead flat or hang it up until it is completely dry — a cord left wet while coiled will start to smell.
Leather
Wipe the leather with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry at room temperature, never on a radiator. A thin coat of leather balm a few times a year keeps it supple. Rinse off salt water the same day.
Brass
Brass darkens on its own. To bring the shine back, polish with a soft dry cloth; for a stubborn spot a little brass polish is enough. Rinse the carabiner after a day at the beach, because sand works its way into the spring.
Wear is part of it.
Leather darkens where you hold it and brass builds its own patina. That is not a fault, that is the material showing its age. If something does break, see shipping and returns.
